Discussion about "The Great Santini Part II"
"The Great Santini Part II" raises a number of problems which may be interesting for the audience. As the matter of fact, the second part continues the major theme of the relationships between the father and the son, which grow particularly tense in the second part. In this respect, the second part is particularly noteworthy in regard to the development of close relationships between the father and the son and problems that may arise in their relationships. Actually, the author attempts to convey the story of his own life but the problem of conflicts between the father and the son are typical for many families. At this point, I would place emphasis on the fact that often fathers do not accept their children, they neglect them and avoid participating in their raising up, whereas mothers have to spent more time with their children than fathers do. As a result, children feel being neglected by their fathers to the extent that, as they grow up, their fathers stay total strangers for them and they have poor, underdeveloped interpersonal relationships with their fathers. At the same time, the neglect from the part of fathers may be in a way natural because they are influenced by existing gender-related biases and stereotypes, which position fathers as bread-winners, who have little time for educating their children. Nevertheless, "The Great Santini Part II" reveals the full extent to which the development of positive relationships between the father and the child is important for the child as well as for the father.
