Reflection Question

Reflection Question
1) Immigrants are considered as a minority group in a certain country. American sociologist Louis Wirth gave the definition of group of minorities: "a group of people, evolved in the society by their physical or cultural characteristics, because they feel smothered and inequality, who regard themselves as objects of collective discrimination." The explanation includes objective and subjective criteria. Objective: belonging to minority groups by society, according to physical or behavioral characteristics. Subjective: minorities identify themselves as such groups and may use their status to self-identification and solidarity. To make people feel better in within the minority group, there can be implemented the state program for the additional core courses of the state language for immigrants and minorities, so that they become more competitive in school and employment, so they can feel more confidence. It may be necessary because minority groups have certain difficulties.

2) Minority groups may become indistinguishable from the dominant group in case they feel comfortable in the environment where they live, where they feel safe, protected and respected, and also where there are proper laws to ensure that. Segregation is the policy of forced separation of any population. It is usually referred to as a form of religious and racial discrimination (separation of groups based on race or ethnicity). Assimilation is a loss of the one part of society of their distinctive features and the replacement of them by borrowed from the other side (another ethnic group). In general, this ethno-cultural shift in the consciousness of a particular social group, previously representing another community in terms of language, religion or culture. Assimilation can be either voluntary - hobby other more developed or attractive culture, interethnic and interfaith marriages, etc., and the coercive nature - the conquest, the numerical destruction, displacement, legislative activity aimed at the suppression of certain cultural and linguistic manifestations.

Those minority groups who have support and friends who can help them in any situation, as usual feel safe and comfortable and they even can forget that they represent a minority group. When the society will understand that all people have equal rights and no one can be put into minority group and humiliated, then the minority groups with the set limits will be in the past.
